So far surfaces have been inspected visually and therefore to a certain extent subjectively. Optical scanners deliver objective results by preset parameters.

BMT offers both scanners for inside and outside faces for the inspection of bores, cylinders, pistons and shafts. The devices are often customised.

There seem in especially these two application areas

a) 100% in-line inspection

b) Single inspection of used engines/liners with documentation of the surface image and the features as detected

Our scanners work like an office scanner; using a linear photo diode array of variable length the surface is being scanned in b/w or colour. Scanning times are within seconds.

Using this method one can detect pores, honing structure, carbonisation, defects, pits and no-clean-up or worn areas.
